Building More than One MLM at the Same Time. Good Idea or Bad?

As many of you know, I’ve recently become involved in several network marketing companies in the last few months.

I became a member of the Global Information Network (GIN) last year in November, and then also ended up enrolling as a distributor for a company called Lifewave and most recently for Isagenix.

I love the products that all three of these companies produce.

They are synergistic products that work very well together.

GIN is a private success club which provides it’s members with the training, connections and systems required to build wealth in every area of your life.

Lifewave products work at the energetic level, helping to balance and heal the energy body.

Isagenix products work with the physical body to provide it with the nutrients and cleansing required to keep the body in top shape.

As a polymath/scanner type personality, my original idea was to build a business/income around all of these companies – since I like all of them.

However, after about 4 months of trying this process out I have come to the realization that trying to actively focus on more than one network marketing business at the same time is NOT a smart move.

As tempting as it can be to try to build multiple network marketing businesses like this out at the same time, it simply isn’t possible to be effective when your efforts and energy are split in multiple directions.

While my organizations in these three companies were small, it wasn’t too difficult for a scanner like myself to keep track of 3 network marketing businesses at the same time.

However, after a while, I realized that I wasn’t being effective in any one of them to my fullest potential.

The Physical Limitation

The first and most obvious limitation I ran into was the physical limitation of being in two places at the same time.

For example, there are certain conference calls that happen in each of these three companies and often times they happen on the same days and at the same times.

There are certain weekend events that overlap as well.

After a while I realized that there is just no way that I could fully engage in all three or even two of these companies.  There are just too many schedule conflicts to resolve.

The Multi-System Limitation

Another limitation of trying to build multiple network marketing companies at the same time is trying to run multiple systems at the same time.

The more successful you become in any one company, the harder it becomes to follow multiple systems at the same time.

Also, running multiple systems at the same time leads to a lot of confusion and wasted energy.

The Conflicting Beliefs Limitation

Another flaw in trying to build multiple network marketing companies at the same time is that most companies have different beliefs around their businesses.

For example, one network marketing company might believe wholeheartedly in the belief that “You should never lead with the business opportunity.  Always lead with the product first, and business opportunity second…” while another one might believe the exact opposite.

Another example might be that one company might be very focused on having a duplicable system to follow, while another company might be more liberal in allowing each distributor to do things their own way.

After a while you begin to realize that there are just too many different – and often conflicting beliefs – that you start hearing from your sponsors, their uplines and the higher level trainers in each company.

You end up trying to evaluate a heap-mix of different beliefs which just results in a lot of confusion.

But I Like the Products!

From day one my GIN training has been telling me to focus my efforts on just one network marketing company – whether that be GIN or something else.

One of the main reasons I’ve been resistant to accepting this has been the fact that I like the products of all these different companies!

I like the products that Lifewave produces and Isagenix and GIN.  So my internal conflict was that I didn’t want to just pick any one of them, as I love them all!

However, I have now come to realize that there is a big difference between using and even sharing the products that a company produces with your friends and family, and actively focusing on building a business within an organization.

There is absolutely no reason why you can’t use and share the products of multiple network marketing companies with your friends and family at the same time.

If you come across a great product that you like which is sold by a network marketing company, and it makes financial sense to purchase the products as a distributor to get a discounted price, then go for it.  There’s no reason you can’t use multiple products from different companies at the same time – especially if they have a synergistic effect on your life.

You may in fact make some part time income just by sharing these products with some friends and family members when they ask about them.  Recommending a great product you found to friends and family is no different than recommending a great movie you just saw.

(By the way John Carter was a great movie I just saw. :) )

However, to build a real network marketing business requires an active focus on one company, one system, and one belief structure for a sustained period of time (usually at least 1-5 years).

Anything else becomes a distraction and hurts your progress.

So this is what I’ve decided to do.  To actively focus on just one network marketing business at a time.

Choosing My Focus

Once I made the decision to choose just one network marketing company to actively focus on and to commit my energy to, I had to figure out which one of the three companies it would be.

Making the decision didn’t take me very long as the opportunity within the Global Information Network definitely stands out in my mind as far greater than anything else out there.

For one, GIN is completely aligned with my spiritual beliefs and my beliefs around the Law of Attraction and Intention Manifestation.

Although Lifewave and Isagenix are also great companies that have distributors who are into personal development, the personal development training in GIN is unparallelled anywhere else.

You simply can’t find personal development training like the one that’s inside GIN anywhere else. Period.

Secondly, the proven business “system” that’s built into GIN and the improvements they are constantly making is also unmatched by any other company.

Thirdly, the fact that GIN is a worldwide organization is another huge benefit.  I’ve already had multiple people contact me about wanting to join the Isagenix opportunity – for example – from countries where Isagenix does not distribute to, so I had to turn them away, which sucks.

Of course Lifewave and Isagenix have their own unique benefits as well, and they are both great organizations ran by great people, but GIN’s vision is just way more aligned with my spiritual and business beliefs.  That is one of the primary reasons I’ve chosen to actively focus on growing that business.

Another reason why I’ve chosen GIN as my active focus is because I’ve seen the plans that GIN has for the future.  Some of the stuff they are planning to do is going to be awesome.  It’s a cause I can definitely get behind and I would love to help them make it a reality.

Once again I’ll point out that I am still a distributor and a huge fan of the Lifewave and Isagenix product lines.  I think they’re great and I’ll continue using them – probably for life!

Results So Far

I’ve only really made the decision to focus on GIN about two weeks ago, but already I’ve seen some major improvements.

I’ve become more focused, and more effective with less effort.

The results I’ve started to produce have also been rather miraculous compared to what I was producing when I wasn’t focused.

For example, when I wasn’t focused on GIN exclusively, in the month of January and February combined, I signed up just one GIN member in that two-month period of time.

Since putting my active focus on GIN, I’ve already signed up two GIN members in the first two weeks of March and have at least 2 others who are seriously interested.

Besides producing better results myself, I have also found it much easier to connect with the people I have sponsored in my GIN business and to devote more of my energy in helping them succeed as well.

And finally, probably the best and most exciting benefit of this focus has been that I have been enjoying myself and having fun with this business a lot more now that I’m only focusing on building one network.

If you are a scanner or polymath type personality like me and you’ve been “trying out” multiple network marketing companies to see what you like best, I highly recommend choosing one and actively focusing on it instead of spreading your energies across multiple opportunities.

There is nothing wrong with being a distributor in multiple network marketing companies if you love their products, but stick with actively building just one at a time.

You’ll get much better results.
