Power 90 – Day 3 & 4
So I just finished my 4th workout in the Power 90 program from Beachbody. Yesterday I did the 3rd workout.
Day’s 3 and and 4 are repeats of days 1 and 2. I noticed yesterday and today that I wasn’t running out of energy during the workouts like I was on day 1 and 2. I think this is due to a small increase in the amount of carbs I’ve been eating in the last few days as well as increasing my overall calories.
I am not sure if I’m going to be tracking my calories every day long term, but tracking my calories since Sunday has definitely brought more awareness to me as to what I’m eating and how much I’m eating.
Measuring food in terms of visible quantity is not a good way of tracking calories. Some foods are nutrient dense but don’t pack a lot of calories, while other foods pack a lot of calories but have very little nutrients. It’s tough to gauge food intake just by eying it.
I would be willing to bet the average person is at least 50-70% off on their calorie estimates if they’re just guesstimating in their minds. That goes for both eating too many calories and not enough.
Having finished days 3 and 4 of the Power 90 program, and comparing it to days 3 and 4 of P90X I can say that Power 90 is a way better program for beginners. I remember day 4 in P90X is a 90 minute Yoga session that just killed me the first time, and I know many people who never even got through the first 20 minutes of it.
I am definitely going to be recommending Power 90 over P90X to everyone as a starting point, unless they are already in awesome shape. Then they can jump in and try their hand at P90X.
Alright, day 3 and 4 are done. Now for a quick shower and a glass of water…

I tried P90X twice, and failed each time due to injuries and unbelievable soreness (they do a LOT of pull-ups that first day, and a LOT of jump squats the second). That’s when I realized that Power 90 existed, which eases you into a routine. I know everyone wants to go straight into the program that yields those unbelievable results we see on television, but it’s not the smartest route to total body fitness. I’m on P90 right now, and I feel just sore enough the next day to push myself through the next routine. The next day, one muscle group is healed and the next is in recovery — perfect! Great post!
