P90X – Day 27 – Yoga X

Today was one of those days where nothing was going right for me business wise.  I had a bunch of research to do on some Affiliate Marketing related stuff and things just weren’t working out for me.  It’s like one of those days where you wake up in the morning and stub your toe and it just sets the rest of the day up.

Normally I’m pretty good at interrupting my patterns and snapping out of such a grumpy mood, but today it was persistent.  By 3pm my brain was racing with all kinds of thoughts in all unrelated areas, remembering things I had forgotten to do and things I need to get done.  I then stopped myself, walked away from my computer, unrolled my Yoga mat, popped in Yoga X, pushed play and did my Yoga X for 90 minutes.

By the time I was done, I was calm, much more relaxed and feeling great about myself.  I was able to hold a lot of the poses today a lot longer than before, and on some of the Ab poses which really burn I was able to stay with them even though my abs were literally shaking/vibrating from the burn.  If someone was looking from the side, it would like like I was having a mini-seizure – that’s how much some of these Ab exercises work your Abs.  Once they’re done though, it feels so good.  I bet my Abs will be sore tomorrow.

I also noticed that all of this week my lower back has been getting a major workout because it feels tight, and a lot stronger than before.  I really like that because my lower back has always been a weaker spot for me.

Food wise, I had a protein shake in the morning which tasted really good.  Then I ended up going out for dinner after my Yoga X workout and had Chinese food again.   Chicken Mushroom Egg Foo Yung, Mixed Vegetables, Almond Chicken and Chicken Fried Rice.  No it’s not a P90X meal, but the place where we get our Chinese food is not very greasy.  For example the mixed veggies are basically just like steamed veggies.  The Egg Foo Yung is basically like the P90X Chicken Scramble, except they use the whole egg and it has Bean Sprouts in it.

Tomorrow I probably have to go to the grocery store and pickup groceries for the new Phase II diet plan that starts next week.  I’m looking forward to trying out the new recipes and getting some pictures of them up for you guys.

I still can’t believe that I’m already on DAY 27 of this program!  It feels like I just started yesterday!

Awesome work. I like how you post the days ;) 27 days already. Keep it up.

Paul, your site is one of the best I have encountered. Very thorough and easy to follow. I really like the progress spreadsheet, save me from having to make one up. I’m quite sure it wouldn’t have been as complete as yours.

P90X should really provide something like that as well. I have been on the Beach Body site but it is not as staight forward as I would have liked.

    Keep up the good work!

    Hey Paul,
Today was Day 1. Wow, that is some work out! My wife and I got up at 5:00 am to make sure we had enough time to finish and recover before work. I don’t think I’ll need to use a the chin up bar or real weights until Day 30. The resistance band will probably do fine. What did you do?

I could only make it through half of the Ab X a I thought I was going to hurl. Not because I felt sick but more because I was so full of water.

My arms don’t feel too bad right now so I think either I didn’t “Bring it” enough or I’m going to be in pain tomorrow.

    What was your experience?

I definitely felt akward during my first work out but I can see how you can get really into doing it. I am already looking forward to tomorrow’s work out.

Any advice you can give during the 1st and 2nd week would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Andy

    Thanks Paul,

It really help to have someone walk you through it doesn’t it?
I’ll keep following your progress as well as I am sure I will be having many of the same experiences.

    Hey Paul,

Day 2. I’m not feeling so guilty about my workout yesterday as I discovered today my chest and arms were sore so obviuosly I made some effort . I skipped ab ripper X yesterday morning felt guilty, and then did it last night. This morning was Plyometrics as you know. I actually enjoyed this as I could do all the moves and did not feel awkward at all. Question: What am I supposed to enter into your spreadsheet for Plyo,Yoga and core? An ‘X” to show that I completed it?

My wife and I have not been following the diet exactly but we have been eating clean and trying to listen to our bodies’ about how often and how much to eat. Hopefully that will not detract from our success. I just don’t know how you can be expected to measure 1oz. of this and 3 ozs. of that. That is a little too much to ask I think. I’ve lost about 5 lbs already but I started eating clean and drinking tonnes of water over a week ago.

I would like to see your progress pictures but I can understand holding off as well as it would have a bigger impact in the end. Up to you right?

    Keep on trucking man!

    Andy

  • Paul Piotrowski says:

Yes, you put an X on those sheets.

Do you measure your Body Fat %? It’s important to know that the weight you’re losing is not muscle tissue. You want to be losing fat, not muscle.

Losing muscle happens when you’re not consuming enough calories and your body goes into starvation mode.

  • Andy says:

Way to go Paul! You can definitely see a change. From all the research I’ve done on P90X the least noticeable changes occur in the first phase. Therefore, I think you have a lot to look forward to after Day 60 and 90. I know I aready feel way better after even 3 days. I have lots more energy and just want to do things.

    Keep posting.

@Paul: Thanks! Welcome to the site.

  • Paul Piotrowski says:

@Andy: Thanks man, I appreciate the feedback. Keep coming back and keep commenting…it keeps me motivated to keep posting.

If you have questions about P90X or about nutrition, go ahead and ask. I’m glad to help in any way I can.

  • Paul Piotrowski says:

@Andy: Congratulations on completing Day 1! You’re awesome!

I also went with the resistance bar. I think it’s way better to be able to do 10-15 resistance bands reps with proper form, than to try to squeeze out half or one rep on the chin-up bar with sloppy form. I think chin-ups are a lot harder for people who haven’t developed their lats, back and shoulders and who carry a lot of extra weight. Remember, it’s a lot harder for a person weighing 200lbs to do a chin-up than a person weighing 150lbs. Don’t try to be a hero, stick with the resistance bands until you can do chin-ups easily with proper form.

Yeah, in terms of water you have to “sip” water, not gulp it during workouts, otherwise you’re going to feel sick because you’re stomach is full of water.

LOL. Wait till tomorrow and the day after, and then tell me your arms don’t feel it. :)

Don’t worry about feeling awkward. That’s part of the program. You’re just not used to doing this type of thing, and neither is 99.999% of the world. This isn’t your grandma’s Aerobics workout. This is Extreme Home Fitness.

My advice for week 1 and two is to just keep clicking Play and keep going. Don’t let any excuses stop you. You’re probably going to have a tough time with Plyometrics tomorrow, as that’s the hardest workout of the week. Just survive through it. Don’t give up. Do your best, modify exercises wherever you need to. Wear a heart monitor and try not to go too high. I try to stay below 155bpm for myself. If your heart rate goes to high, you’ll end up feeling nauseous and things become really hard to do and you’ll end up building negative associations with the workout. If you keep your heart rate in “The Zone”, it’ll be a hard workout but you’ll enjoy it.

Oh, and when you get to Yoga X, the first 45minutes are killer, after that it gets way easier. Don’t give up at the 43minute mark right before it gets easier. A lot of people give up, thinking that there is no way they can do 90 minutes of Yoga X, not realizing that it gets WAY easier after 45minutes. I almost gave up, but luckily I stuck to it. :)

If you have any other questions, let me know.

  • Paul Piotrowski says:

@Andy: Yes the increase in energy is awesome!
